As an entrepreneur you have heard, even preached the expression: life does not get easier, you just get stronger. Now we are experiencing it in a way we had not imagined.

As we were about to emerge from the clutches of the pandemic, another plague struck Europe. The Russian attack on Ukraine, inconceivable by the modern world, came like a Tsunami in Europe and even around the world. Destructive weapons warfare, to the point of threatening to use nuclear weapons, is causing tremendous damage to Ukraine and its people. Thousands of people were killed and over 4 million were displaced, despite strong and unpredictable resistance from Ukrainians.

In the previous edition of the Business Magazine we have brought the most important economic developments from the country and the world, the efforts of companies to adapt to a completely new reality, and the profile of different companies and entrepreneurs.

Dynamic developments in less than a month led to previously unthinkable decisions for dozens of international companies. Raw material markets saw prices rise at the highest rates in 40 years, while squares in world capitals, including Tirana, hosted protests, first against the war and then against rising prices.

On March 8, the price of Oil went from 199 ALL/liter to 260-270 ALL per liter, while during March, the price of mass bread went from 80 lekALL to 100 and finally 120 ALL. The government set up committees to monitor markets and keep prices under control, a temporary form of stunting growth.

The committees themselves raised the price of oil a few days ago, showing that we can not resist international pressure to increase prices. As in the pandemic, this is a test case for governance. Any government with high public debt has no room to reduce the tax burden and its support packages will be superficial.

Under completely uncertain conditions, enterprises continue to look ahead, aiming to achieve their objectives, even by increasing their efforts, or costs.
