"During this year, I've seen many posts on social networks about Albania, and since I had visited many other places nearby, I thought it was time to travel here to see all the natural and historical sites that interest me. The low costs were also a significant factor. All my reservations were up to the proper standards. Easy to find, the rooms were exceptionally clean and equipped with all necessary amenities. I really liked that the hotels and other places offered traditional meals for breakfast," says Krista Plocenik, the blogger behind "Krista the Explorer."

Historically, Albania has been a budget-friendly destination for tourists, especially compared to some other Balkan countries. Accommodation prices in cities like Tirana, Durrës, Saranda, and Vlora, as mentioned earlier, are relatively inexpensive compared to other regional states, as well as Greece and Italy. In general, the Balkans are a region with many tourist spots and diverse accommodations. From Croatia, one of the most visited countries in Europe, to Montenegro, which offers more and more elite tourism. These are some of the main factors influencing accommodation prices in these places.

Split, Hvar, and Dubrovnik are the three most visited cities in Croatia that have contributed to the growth of the sector in the country, but overcrowding has also led to an increase in accommodation prices. According to data from Airbnb and Booking, costs vary significantly from season to season. In the coastal tourist areas, the price of a vacation rental home can start at 80-100 euros/night in the autumn and winter seasons and increase to 150-250 euros/night during the summer season.

Montenegro has gained international recognition for elite tourism and its beautiful natural landscapes. This is due to the combination of extraordinary beaches, historic towns, marvelous nature, and various opportunities the country offers in this category. Also, luxurious resorts, water activities, and infrastructure tailored for yachts. However, rented houses and apartments are still far from meeting elite tourism requirements, although they are still much higher than in our country.

According to data from online accommodation platforms, in tourist cities like Budva, Kotor, and Ulcinj, the price for a vacation rental home or apartment can start from 50-100 euros/night during the autumn/winter seasons and increase to 100-200 euros or more in the tourist/summer season. Greece is a well-known tourist destination for its marvelous beaches and cultural heritage. Depending on the time and location, accommodation prices can be much higher than in Albania. In general, their costs range from 40 to 200 euros/night. Some of the main tourist cities and areas tend to be more expensive during the tourist season, such as the Greek islands where the most expensive is Mykonos with 100-250 euros, and the cheapest is Thessaloniki, where prices range from 40 to 100 euros.

Next door, in Italy, tourist destinations like the Amalfi Coast, Tuscany, and Sardinia offer a plethora of accommodations that are much more expensive than those in Albania, Greece, Croatia, and other tourist attractions during the summer season. Italy offers small apartments in historic cities, rural houses in villages, villas on the coast, and many other accommodations, including cities like Rome and Florence. Prices in the land of pasta and pizzas vary from 50-500 euros/night, with the most expensive being in the southern part of Italy.

The rental prices of tourist houses in North Macedonia are generally lower compared to other regional countries. In cities like Skopje, Ohrid, and Struga, affordable options can be found, averaging from 30 to 80 euros per night, mainly aligning with lower values. Kosovo has a relatively developed tourist market but is also small, so the rental prices of tourist houses are quite affordable to accommodate visitors' budgets. According to posts on Booking.com and Airbnb, on average, a vacation rental home in Kosovo can cost from 30 to 70 euros/night. But during the winter season, areas like Peja and Rugova are in high demand, characterized as similar to the Swiss Alps. In these places, a night averages from 50-150 euros, but lower prices can be found in cities and not in mountainous areas.
