In Daniel Blloshmi’s life, every day is a testimony of strength, sensitivity, and love for life. He is not only a successful professional in the financial field and a board member of the Global Albanian Foundation, but above all, a devoted father of three children — one of whom has Down syndrome. This experience has profoundly shaped the way he sees the world, people, and the meaning of giving back to the community.
“If I didn’t have a son with Down syndrome, I probably wouldn’t know as much or be as sensitive toward children and families facing the same challenges,” he shares. “Becoming a parent changes you — it fills you with more care, love, and empathy.”
For Daniel, life in the United States has given his family the opportunity to benefit from a system that offers real support for children with special needs. It is precisely this difference between his experience and the reality in Albania that has motivated him and his family to actively support Down Syndrome Albania (DSA).
“We know how much help, therapy, and care these angels need. Albania still doesn’t have the same social infrastructure to support them — that’s why our motivation is to give as much as we can to help,” Daniel explains.
His contribution to DSA has been consistent over the years, and thanks to his dedication, the organization has managed to strengthen its capacities — including the registration of its branch in the United States, an important step toward international cooperation.
For 2025, through Daniel’s initiative and the support of his employer, Merrill (Bank of America), DSA will receive a donation of €10,000.
“Half of the amount comes from my family, and the other half is a ‘match’ from Merrill,” he explains. “In the U.S., many large companies encourage employees to donate to causes and promise to match their contribution up to a certain amount. I used my company’s name because I don’t want personal recognition. I want the focus to remain on the cause.”
In his role as a board member of the Global Albanian Foundation, Daniel emphasizes the importance of building bridges between the Albanian diaspora and social initiatives in Albania. “We often discuss this topic,” he says. “We haven’t found the perfect answer yet, but one thing is clear: if each of us contributes, even a little, the world becomes a better place for everyone.”
In the end, his message to young Albanians in the diaspora is simple and sincere:
“Give as much as you can, to the cause closest to your heart. I’m sure that the help you give will have a greater impact on others than the absence you’ll feel from giving it.”By Eni Muça
