Lab of Tomorrow (LoT), an innovative German program aimed at bringing together businesses and various stakeholders to co-create sustainable solutions to economic and environmental challenges, held its Demo Day yesterday, marking the final phase of incubation in Albania. After an exciting 12-week incubation journey, four teams from the EU4CELC Lab of Tomorrow reached a significant milestone with the completion of the Demo Day & Winners Awarding Ceremony. This event celebrated their innovative solutions in circular glass packaging and beyond. Each team has worked with dedication to develop innovative approaches for glass reuse and recycling. Now, thanks to the grants awarded, they are ready to bring their ideas to life and scale their impact on a larger level!

The event opened with remarks from Ms. Christine Konig, Commission Manager of EU4Circular Economy and Liveable Cities.

“This project unfolds an extraordinary potential for generating new ideas, inspiring us to collaborate with local businesses to extend the life cycle of products, reduce the need for new resources, and minimize environmental impact. Today, it’s not just about acknowledging the challenges we face but rather appreciating the valuable achievements each of you has realized,” said Christine Konig.

The presentation continued with a speech by Ms. Juliana Hoxha, Director of Partners Albania for Change and Development.

“Welcome to the journey towards a greener Albania. I want to congratulate you for your courage and vision demonstrated in this important moment. A special thanks for your patience and collaboration as part of this process,” – said Juliana Hoxha, Director of Partners Albania for Change and Development.

“It has been a long and demanding process, but at the same time very intensive and dense. This is not merely a spark of the three-month incubation process but a commitment that demonstrates how, together, we can build significant steps towards innovation and sustainability. This is a moment that motivates us to move forward with determination and collaboration.”

The presentation also featured two LoT alumni, Ms. Arjodita Mustali, founder of Vigan Group, and Mr. Valer Pinderi, founder of Aladin. Both shared their experiences from previous editions and highlighted the importance of perseverance and resilience to bring their work to a successful conclusion. They emphasized that every positive achievement results from continuous efforts and sustainability in facing challenges throughout the journey.

The main highlight of the event was the project presentations before the jury by each winning group.

The participating teams were:

  • Albania Glass Recycling – Focused on developing solutions for recycling glass waste.
  • Re-Living – Offers a new approach to glass reuse in Gjirokastër by developing a circular scheme.
  • ReuseAglass – Engages in creating recycling systems for microbreweries and wineries.
  • Circular Art Hub – Repurposes glass packaging, such as bottles and jars, to create functional and artistic products.

The LoT23 Incubation and Grant Management Program, implemented by Partners Albania, is part of the EU4CELC project—co-financed by the EU in Albania and BMZ BUND and implemented by GIZ Albania in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism and Environment. This activity is another important step towards building a green and sustainable economy for Albania and Kosovo.
