When it comes to the future of construction in Albania, sustainability and energy efficiency are no longer just slogans but real market demands. As a partner of the Energy, Construction, and Green Economy Fair, Saint-Gobain brings forward the most advanced technologies: from thermo-insulation systems with European certification, to smart glass that reduces energy consumption, and even recycling of materials for a more sustainable economy. In an interview for Business Magazine, Mrs. Elona Lekloti, Management Director, explains why these solutions are now a necessity for the Albanian market.

What is Saint-Gobain’s vision for the Albanian construction market, especially regarding sustainable building?

Saint-Gobain’s vision for the Albanian market, just as worldwide, is to contribute to building a more sustainable future through solutions that reduce environmental impact and improve energy performance. This means long-lasting products, lower maintenance costs, and protection against natural phenomena such as earthquakes and fires, suitable for every type of construction.

Relying on the Group’s global mission, “Making the world a better home”, we aim to promote lightweight, sustainable, and decarbonized construction, bringing advanced technologies for thermal insulation, acoustic comfort, and fire protection.

Our global brands, including WEBER, RIGIPS, ISOVER, ECOPHON, Adfors, Bituver, SAINT-GOBAIN GLASS, and many others, are designed to meet the highest standards of energy efficiency and user well-being.

Saint-Gobain is a member of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, the World Green Building Council, and an active member of the European Alliance to Save Energy, which works to advance energy efficiency in Europe. The company also plays an important role as the official partner of the Global Award for Sustainable Architecture.

Why have you chosen to participate as one of the key partners of the Energy, Construction, and Green Economy Fair, and what message do you want to convey to the Albanian market?

Our participation in this fair is an expression of our commitment to being an active partner in the transformation of the construction sector in Albania. This forum is an important platform to present our innovations, share expertise, and build new partnerships.

Our message is clear: sustainable construction is no longer an option, but a necessity. We believe in cross-sector collaboration to deliver solutions that contribute to a greener and more efficient economy.

As our Group CEO, Benoit Bazin, has said:
“I think we must radically change the way we see architecture. It’s not just about building objects, but also about ensuring the well-being of people and the health of our planet. Solutions exist, but only by involving all stakeholders can we achieve the necessary transformation of the sector. This is precisely why we created the Sustainable Construction Observatory and joined the Global Award for Sustainable Architecture™: we must encourage an ecosystem where manufacturers, architects, artisans, and policymakers work together for more sustainable construction.”

What innovative solutions has Saint-Gobain brought to Albania, and how do they contribute to energy efficiency and a greener future?

Saint-Gobain has introduced in Albania a wide portfolio of integrated solutions that support sustainable construction and energy efficiency, including:

  • EnveoTherm façade insulation systems, the only ones in the market with EOTA certification.
  • Rigips, Ecophon & Isover systems for interior walls and dry ceilings, improving thermal and acoustic comfort.
  • Weber, Bituver, and other thermal and waterproofing systems, suitable for floors, terraces, and pools, ensuring durability and high performance with no impact on health or the environment.
  • Innovative coated glass such as COOL-LITE® SKN and ECLAZ®, offering thermal insulation and solar control, significantly reducing energy use for lighting and air conditioning.
  • Technical support for major green projects in Albania, such as Downtown One and Tirana Marriott Hotel, integrating high-level solutions for sustainable construction, in the process of obtaining LEED Platinum certification.
  • Recycling of lightweight materials, using construction waste to produce new materials such as polystyrene, gypsum boards, and glass.
  • Commitment to carbon neutrality by 2050, through optimized production processes, use of renewable energy, and investments in R&D.
  • Digital tools for professionals and investors, such as BIM Libraries and various calculators for material and cost estimation.

What practices or new technologies do you plan to bring to meet the specific needs of the Albanian and regional market?

Saint-Gobain adapts global technologies to local specificities through customized solutions such as EnveoTherm façade systems and digital insulation calculators. We provide technical support starting from the design phase, helping architects and engineers optimize building performance. We also promote material recycling and the use of low-impact, EPD-certified products (Environmental Product Declaration).

How important are sectoral fairs for building partnerships and market development?

Sectoral fairs are essential for the development of the construction industry. They provide opportunities for:

  • Dialogue and exchange of ideas;
  • Showcasing technological innovations and international certifications;
  • Educating the market on sustainable construction and energy efficiency;
  • Presenting concrete projects where our systems have been applied;
  • Building partnerships that add value across the entire construction chain.
