Velipoja hosts the first sand festival “Land & Sand Art Festival”

For the first time in Albania, the first edition of the sand festival "Land & Sand Art Festival", which comes as a novelty for our country, will take place in Velipojë, from August 24-27, 2022. With the support of the Ministry of Culture and the Minister of State for Entrepreneurship Protection. 

"Land & Sand Art Festival" a multi-national and colorful arena

International artists, sand & land artists, participate in the event and create works of art in public spaces with a free theme. Students from the universities of Arts in Albania and Kosovo (Shkodër, Tirana and Pristina) become part of the created masterclasses and are invited to create and interact with international professional artists. Demonstrations in the sand are made for children of different age groups for whom there will be dedicated spaces to be part of creative activities. Among other things, discussion panels will be created where artists will be invited to illustrate their creative processes in space and to discuss the effects of excessive consumption, the pollution of public spaces, and the importance of land art in an era where more and more artists are creating environmental and eco-art that raises awareness and provides answers to some of the environmental issues we face today. This festival will conclude with the final night of the event where the Winning Artist of this first festival will be announced. The evening will continue with musical events.

"Land & Sand Art Festival" brings a new form of art in a professional and international spirit, drawing from the experience of international invited artists. It influences the cultural formation of the Albanian audience, making this initiative activate creative and healthy entertainment activities for young people and children of all Albanian regions.

It is a point of reference to inform young Albanians about the importance of such activities, where education and entertainment can merge and interact together.

"Land & Sand Art Festival" is the exchange of cultural and artistic values in national and international spaces, through the involvement of many artists, helping in the interaction between generations coming from different locations of the world.

This festival helps promote and revitalize Velipoja beach through this event, which aims to bring as many tourists from different countries as possible, turning it into a growing attraction and the headline of the country's socio-cultural and economic development, thereby helping the development of local businesses.

An opportunity for a continuation Sand sculpture and land art festivals are art events that take place every year on different coasts around the world. The creation of works of art in public spaces takes the form of an outdoor festival, where local and international artists will demonstrate this process live, for 5 days. The international artists participating in this Art Festival develop their artistic activity anywhere in the world and have many experiences in festivals and events of this type.

The organization of such an event aims to bring artistic values, and organize creative activities, but also promote the development of tourism in Velipojë and the Shkodër region.

Who is the founder of this festival? 

Beskida Kraja, is a visual artist and independent curator. She completed her secondary studies in her hometown at the Prenk Jakova Artistic Lyceum, Shkodër. She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts of Athens in the field of Monumental Painting with the title of Master of Science. She completed a one-year master's university exchange at the Academy of Fine Arts of Brere in Milan.

She specialized in Art Therapy and Art Pedagogy for "Gifted Children" at the "Kapodistrian" National University of Athens. She is a member of the International Union of Artists and Curators of Greece (AIAP).

Curator of the 'Idromeno' Award 2021, held at the Art Gallery, Shkodër. Co-curator of the exhibition "Weaving the Future" where 35 Greek artists participated. In 2019, together with three Greek artists, she created the artistic group Penelope's Web. Their works had a social character focus on women's rights, but not only. They have exhibited in: Benaki Museum, Athens; Katsigras Museum, Larisa; Michalis Kakoianis Foundation, Athens; Dhimitri Mitara Museum, Halkida; National Gallery of Kosovo, Pristina; Municipal of Athens, Metasurgio; Miza Gallery, Tirana; COD – Center for Openness and Dialogue, Tirana.
