The Albanian government has recently decided that foreigners coming to Albania to work in the field of information technology (IT) will have simplified procedures to stay in Albania.
"The foreigner, who at the moment of crossing one of the border crossing points during entry into the territory of the Republic of Albania, proves that they will work in an IT company, through a declaration issued by the company itself, ... has the right to enter without a visa and stay without a work permit in the Republic of Albania for a period of up to 1 (one) year," among other things, is determined in the decision. During this period, the foreign worker can apply for a work permit in the Republic of Albania.
High emigration, which has affected the specialized workforce, is having a noticeable impact on Albanian businesses. Among the professionals leaving, those in the field of information technology prevail. They can easily find jobs in any other European country, benefiting from the high demand and type of profession. Eurostat has announced that 67.8% of Albanian enterprises that have recruited or attempted to recruit information and communication technology (ICT) specialists have had difficulties in filling ICT positions.
