The electronic service "Request for a Residence Permit" enables foreign nationals who wish to stay for a longer period than 90 days in 180 days in Albania, to apply for a residence permit in the Republic of Albania. The foreigner is notified to be present at the regional authorities responsible for border and migration in the territory where the foreigner has resided, upon confirmation of the fulfillment of conditions and documentation to apply for the renewal of the residence permit through this service.

To apply for the first residence, permit in Albania, the proper application form depends on the reason to stay in Albania:

∙ Family reunification with Albanian citizen

∙ Family reunification with foreigner, resident in Albania

∙ Study

∙ Residence and Work permit

∙ Other reason

∙ Special case, Permanent

The application for a residence permit to the regional authorities responsible for border and migration services, must be made within 30 days of entering the territory of the Republic of Albania, ensuring that:

• the legal requirements for the applied residence permit are meted;

• all the necessary documents are available;

• the documents from the country of origin are translated and legalized.

After submitting an on-line application for renewal of the residence permit on the E• Albania portal, the foreigner will be notified to apply to the Migration Office of Regional. The processing of applications for a residence permit at the Migration Authority will take up to one month. If not all legal requirements and necessary documentation are met, the processing time may be longer. The Migration Service will contact the requesting foreigner if necessary.

The withdrawal of residence permit is done within 30 days at the same local office where the application is submitted and the foreigner has proven his / her identity.

Procedure steps

• Choose the "Residence permit application" service;

• Click the “Use” button;

• Complete the electronic form with the necessary information required on the form; • Upload all the documents listed on the form in PDF format;

• Click the "Send" button at the bottom of the form;

• The State Police officer is notified electronically of the arrival of the new file and begins to verify the accuracy of the documents;

• If there are any inaccuracies or missing documents, the Migration employee notifies the applicant on the inaccuracies and instructs the applicant to complete the practice;

• If the documents are complete, the citizen is informed of the time and date of submission to the local Migration Off ice to submit the original documents;

The withdrawal of residence permit is done within 30 days at the same local office where the application is submitted and the foreigner has proven his / her identity.

Deadline for receiving service

Within 30 days of the submission of the application, the foreigner will be notified of the reception / rejection of the application and the date / time of the meeting at the local Migration Office. The foreigner will be contacted by the local Migration Office, if this deadline is to be extended for objective reasons.

Processing of applications for a residence permit is done by the Migration Authority and will take up to one month. Withdrawal of residence permit is done in the same local office where the application is submitted and the foreigner has proved his / her identity.

Period of validity

3-6 months; 1-year; 2-years; 3-years; 5-years; permanent.
